For this project, designer Deborah Jarchow decided to experiment with honeycomb to showcase yarns with different sizes and textures. In a structure such as honeycomb, the cloth radically changes from its appearance on the loom to its final form after wet-finishing. Sampling is really the only way to determine what a fabric will look like after finishing, so she sampled a few different cell sizes, weft yarns, and setts. Deborah also tested a firmer beat and different spacing options between the honeycomb rows to see what might develop. Finally, she experimented with a monochrome warp and one with mixed colors to see how color affected the design.

Her sampling showed that the pattern is more defined if a thick yarn is used around the honeycomb cells. The Me and Zucca yarns used together create that colorful bold outline. She also loved the alternating rows of cells in multicolored CinCin and the neutral color with a little sparkle provided by Icon.

It was exciting to weave with a wide variety of yarns that some might not think to use on the loom and end up with a dramatic and fun-to-weave scarf!
