I love silk. I love the way it feels—smooth and crisp all at the same time. I love the way it stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter, so I can wear my silk scarves no matter the time of year. I especially love to weave with silk because not only is it delightful to handle, it’s also extraordinarily strong, so I don’t have to worry about threads easily breaking. The only “problem” with silk, perhaps, is that some folks wrongly believe you can’t weave with silk on a rigid-heddle loom, and I am here to tell you that is completely wrong. Don’t believe me? Check out Stephanie Flynn Sokolov’s gorgeous Silk Scarf from the Handwoven Loom Theory: Rigid-Heddle Scarf Collection.

Designer Stephanie Flynn Sokolov’s Statement

Drape yourself in the luxury of silk with this lacy scarf woven in a simple pick-up pattern that highlights a space-dyed yarn. The warp floats on one side, woven using a repeating pick-up pattern, translate to weft floats on the other side. Pick your favorite side or pick both: they are equally beautiful. After all, it is silk!

Happy Weaving!
