Alternative Colorway: Garden Party Purse
For the Spring 2023 issue, Angela K. Schneider wove 3 versions of her Garden Party Purse. As a bonus for subscribers, we give the details about the yarns she used, plus a downloadable version of the final project.

Often, the projects we print in Easy Weaving with Little Looms are one of several iterations the designer created. Projects are rewoven and tweaked for a myriad of reasons: a yarn is discontinued, the designer wanted to try a different color, or a threading error was discovered too late. Sometimes I’m lucky enough to be privy to the variations, which is always fun, and in the case of Angela K. Schneider’s Garden Party Purse, she sent all 3 versions for us to photograph.
Not only did she send the extra purses for us to photograph, but she also shared some of the yarns used, and now I get to share them with you. Current Little Looms magazine subscribers can log in to learn about each of the yarn pairings used, plus get a downloadable version of the final pattern.
For her first purse, which you can see on the left in the photo at the top, Angela did what many of us do and used yarn from her stash. In this case, for the warp Angela used a sportweight-ish 4-ply cotton (with no label) in a natural color.

While the purse is beautiful, you can understand why Angela chose to reweave before submitting!
The final version of the Garden Party Purse and the one published in the magazine.
The second purse, shown in the middle, used Patons Grace in Natural for the warp (the same as the final iteration you see in the magazine) and Berroco Remix—a blend of nylon, cotton, acrylic, silk, and linen—in color #3921 for the weft.
Why the change for the third purse, given that these two yarns are readily available and there are no mistakes? It’s a story I’m sure many of us can relate to: while at Convergence, Angela came across Meridian Mill House’s yarns and found herself thinking, “What if . . . ?” Angela bought the yellow/green yarn and started (re)weaving. Thus, purse #3 was born and became the one ultimately published in our magazine.
Honestly, it was a tough choice between purse #2 and purse #3—both were so good. We let our photostylist decide based on what best matched the outfit she purchased for the shoot. You might like the darker green better or might now feel inspired to try out weaving your own version from your stash. Get a copy of the pattern PDF here, and if you do weave it, I’d love to hear about it!
Happy Weaving!
