Hand-manipulation methods tend to be associated with tapestry weaving but are also commonly used in rigid-heddle weaving. I’ve even seen some used in pin-loom weaving! We had dozens of hand-manipulation techniques to choose from for this guide, and narrowing it down to just four wasn’t easy!

In the end, we landed on two techniques to help you create shapes in your weaving and change color mid-pick, slit tapestry, and dovetail, as well as two ways to add areas of texture to your weaving, rya knots, and soumak.

Contents include:

  1. Introduction
  2. Slit-weft weaving
  3. Dovetail technique
  4. Rya and soumak
  5. Projects to try
  6. Next steps: level up

You'll love these four techniques if you love exploring texture, pattern, and design in your weaving. Get started now, try these new techniques, and weave something extraordinary.
