Ride the Wave

Have you seen a project with a wavy weft and wondered how it’s done? Today’s skill guide breaks down the basics of using a wave stick shuttle or wavy beater to create these attractive patterns.

Using a wave stick lets you explore new patterns and designs by simply placing weft yarns in a specific way. As you beat, you create undulating patterns that sometimes look three-dimensional (as seen in some pattern examples below). There are a few guidelines to follow, but once you learn them, you can do just about any weaving using a wavy shuttle.
