I love so many things about Deborah Bagley’s Timberland Townies project from the Fall 2025 issue: They’re adorable, with personalities that shine through and little details that make them feel extra special. Perhaps even better? They’re actually easy to weave and put together!

As cute as these little critters are, I did run into one big problem when putting them into the issue: Deborah had woven six, but I had room for only three. In the Fall 2025 issue you'll find the fox, bear, and beaver. I couldn't let the bunny, mouse, and otter go to waste, so we put them together as a subscriber-exclusive project download! (Not a subscriber yet? Learn about the benefits and options available here!)

What makes the Timberland Townies different from other pin-loom stuffed animals? The genius behind Deborah’s design is in the way she forms the main body, arms, and legs. Instead of weaving all those parts separately, she makes a tube and then uses stitching to define those body parts. This way you can spend less time weaving, sewing, stuffing, and joining arms and legs and more time making cute little details. If you’ve been looking for a first stuffed-animal project, this project is a perfect choice.

Instead of weaving individual limbs for each animal, Deborah uses clever stitching placement to create arms and legs.

While you decide which of these cute critters you want to weave, consider playing with the designs. You can mix and match instructions and weave any animal in a sweater or a dress, so you can make a lovely lady fox or a set of his and hers otters. Just be warned, once you start weaving, you might come up with ideas for your own Timberland Townies—perhaps a squirrel or raccoon?

Whatever you do, I hope you enjoy this project as much as I do!

Happy Weaving,

Christina
