When I first started pin-loom weaving, I was amazed at how many different ways you can take the squares beyond the basics of simple plain weave. For example, there are hand-manipulation techniques you can use to create texture and pattern in your pin-loom weaving. For example, in her A-Tisket, A-Tasket Basketweave Cowl from Easy Weaving with Little Looms 2018, Deborah Bagley uses a simple technique to create pattern and texture in each pin-loom square. Instead of weaving over-under-over-under to create a plain weave, she skips various overs and unders to create a basketweave pattern using floats.

The coolest part about this particular technique is that once you’ve learned the basics and gotten comfortable with a pattern such as this one, you can use it to start designing your own patterns for pin-loom squares. Strategically create floats to weave twill on your pin loom or make shapes such as hearts, diamonds, chevrons, and more. Once you get started a whole world of design awaits you!

If you like pin-loom weaving and want to take your projects beyond the basics of plain weave, give this project a try. Subscribers will find a direct download to the project below. It’s the perfect way to learn a new technique, and when all is said and done you’ll have a lovely cowl to show off!

Happy weaving,

Christina
