In her video, Angela demonstrates how to warp your pin loom for perfect tension.

What do screenwriters and weavers have in common? Both jobs require finding the perfect amount of tension for each project—something that is especially true in pin-loom weaving. When putting on your first layers of warp on a 3-pin-style pin loom, it can be all too tempting to pull the yarn nice and tight.

As a new weaver, I wove many too-tight squares without realizing the problem wasn’t my loom or the yarn—it was the tension. When I learned how to weave on a pin loom, I was doing so from written instructions and photos. If I’d had an actual teacher, I bet I would not have struggled nearly so much with tension for so long.

Fortunately for all the pin-loom weavers who came after me, there’s Angela Tong’s new course Weave Patterns on the Pin Loom: Build Your Skills with Textures Beyond Plain Weave. While this might sound like an intermediate or even an advanced course, Angela teaches weavers everything they need to know to get started weaving on a pin loom—including how to get perfect tension right from the start. In fact, her helpful tips on tension are so good that we thought they would make a great free video tip!

It really is that easy! If you enjoyed Angela’s video, check out the rest of her video course. Not only will you learn the basics of warping and weaving, but you will also learn how to read patterns, work with tricky yarns such as cotton, and so much more. As with all of our incredible Little Looms videos, Weave Patterns on the Pin Loom is included free with the Little Looms All Access Subscription.

Happy Weaving!
