Before there was Easy Weaving with Little Looms, there was Handwoven. While Handwoven’s primary focus has always been multi-shaft looms, throughout the years, it has featured many amazing small-loom projects. One of the joys of going through back issues and old eBooks is discovering small-loom projects that might have otherwise been forgotten.

For example, recently we discovered the eBook Rigid-Heddle Weaving Patterns, so of course we had to bring it over to the Little Looms Library to share with all of you here, as an end-of-the-year thank-you gift.

A Kitchen Valance in Brooks Bouquet by Mariellen Boss

This eBook includes three beautiful rigid-heddle projects, all previously published in Handwoven. In these digital pages, you’ll find a project for pillows by Liz Gipson that use variegated singles to create a gorgeous, painterly effect. There’s also a sweet valance by Mariellen Boss featuring rows of Brooks bouquet to give a lovely lace effect. Finally, there’s another pillow project, but in this cushion, designer Leslie Ann Bestor used pick-up to create a spot-Bronson type weave that gives the piece incredible texture.

I love these projects for many reasons, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention just how beginner-friendly they really are. Liz’s pillows are woven out of plain weave using thick wool, making them a quick-and-easy weave. While there are also instructions for weaving some tubular piping as trim, the piping is just as easy to weave as the pillow—and even quicker to warp!

The other two projects are great examples of “practice makes better” because they both have you repeat the same technique over and over again. If you want to get your Brooks bouquet on point, by the end of weaving Mariellen’s valance, you’ll be a pro. If you want to practice your pick-up, Leslie Ann’s pillow is perfect.

Whether you’re a new weaver wanting some starter projects or a well-seasoned professional looking for something new to weave this winter, this eBook has got you covered.

Happy Weaving!
