Tiny Bubbles Shawl

The hand-manipulated techniques used in the Tiny Bubbles Shawl may be challenging for weavers who haven’t worked Danish medallions before. Consider working a generous sample or a simple project before beginning the handwoven shawl.

Bring a little Gatsby-esque glamour with a show-stopping handwoven shawl. The hand-manipulated metallic lace “bubbles” in this luxurious wrap were inspired by bubbles rising in a glass of champagne. Combining modified Brooks bouquet and Danish medallion techniques creates art-deco inspired panels of delicate lace. The hand-manipulated techniques form mirrored arcs at either end of the shawl, yet the fabric remains stable with lovely drape. The wool/silk blend makes a warm yet lightweight piece that shines with elegance. The knotted fringe finish is a nod to handwork found on shawls from the early twentieth century. The result is a simply gorgeous show-stopping piece of weaving.

Tiny Bubbles Shawl by Halcyon Blake Brooks bouquet and Danish medallions combine to create the beautiful Tiny Bubbles Shawl by Halcyon Blake and Gretchen Jaeger.

Halcyon Blake founded Halcyon Yarns in 1971; the store is now owned by daughter Gretchen Jaeger. In homage to the family connection, the shawl is finished with a fringe that recalls a shawl that belonged to their grandmother/great-grandmother, whose name was Halcyon Weaver.

The hand-manipulated techniques used in the Tiny Bubbles Shawl may be challenging for weavers who haven’t worked Danish medallions before. Consider working a generous sample or a simple project before beginning the handwoven shawl. The opportunity to weave the shawl is worth the practice, however, as it’s the perfect elegant accessory for a fancy night out on the town. Find it today in Easy Weaving with Little Looms 2018.
